Our Philosophy

Teamwork, collaboration and strong relationships among our valued partners is the foundation of the Coalition for Workforce Diversity (CWD). The CWD provides services and support for disabled workers to over 30 employers and over 40 agency partners. The Coalition for Workforce Diversity  works closely with agencies such as Options Unlimited, Zoom Group, Down Syndrome of Louisville, Rauch, Office of Vocational Rehab and Veterans Affairs. The Coalition for Workforce Diversity works closely with these agencies to provide individuals with disabilities an opportunity to work and prosper. The Coalition for Workforce Diversity assists individuals with disabilities such as cognitive impairments, learning disabilities, Down’s Syndrome, hearing and visual impairments, Autism and Veterans with disabilities.

Our History

In 2010, Best Buy Distribution Center (Shepherdsville, KY) launched an initiative to actively employ and integrate individuals with disabilities as a major part of their workforce. The initial feedback from Best Buy corporate, managers and warehouse supervisors was overwhelming; prompting the request for additional workers with disabilities. Best Buy first began working with Options Unlimited (www.optionsunlimitedinc.org), a Kentucky based organization that helps disabled individuals find sustainable employment. Aptly named, The “Best Buy Coalition” was formed and became an immediate success. The Best Buy Coalition was able to provide services through this agency to a great number of workers in the region. Two years later, in 2012, UPS realized that working with the coalition would also help fill open positions in their Worldport Hub, the Main Air Hub for UPS global operations. After studying the successes of plans initiated by Best Buy and Walgreens, UPS started their own program and continued to work closely with what ultimately became the “Best Buy UPS Coalition.”

While the name officially changed to The Coalition for Workforce Diversity, the “Best Buy UPS Coalition” was, and still is, great success; assisting individuals with disabilities find equal employment among an ever-expanding list of companies in the Louisville Metro area. Best Buy and UPS continue to be lead employers with the Coalition For Workforce Diversity and leverage their successful model to additional companies, benefiting the workers and companies alike.
